On Wednesday, 27 February, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy hosted a public hearing on the Telecom package, entitled Better 'Regulation and the European Electronic Communications Market Authority'. The hearing will be chaired by EPP-ED Member Angelika Niebler (Germany), Chairwoman of the committee.
MEPs will have an opportunity for a question and answer session with Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding. Some of the topics for debate on the agenda include ways in which to ensure a level playing field between telecom operators, ensure competitive markets, as well as strategies to stimulate investment, reduce the regulatory burden, and simplify procedures. Pilar del Castillo Vera MEP (Spain), rapporteur of Parliament's report on the telecoms package, will conclude the hearing.
The hearing will take place between 9.00am and 12.30pm in room 3E2 of the European Parliament.
